Carnival of Venice

What started as early as 1296 as a way to bring a sometimes violent community together for a day before Lent (an official Venetian holiday), The Carnival of Venice today lasts 2-3 weeks before the Lenten season and includes masked balls, music and celebrations across the city.  It has been estimated that almost 1 million visitors come to Venice during that time to celebrate, but what we really want to know is: what do they eat and drink as part of the celebration?
